Cowgirls Face Big Test in Road Finale Saturday

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirls play their final road contest of the season Saturday afternoon as they travel to take on San Diego State in a 2 p.m., Mountain Time contest. Wyoming is looking to bounce back from a 71-62 loss Thursday night at New Mexico.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.

ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (17-9, 10-5 MW) was led by Allyson Fertig in the loss in Albuquerque Thursday as she tied a career-high with 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting. It marked the third time this season that Fertig has scored 20-or-more in a game and the fifth time for her career. The sophomore made her first four shots of the game to extend her consecutive field goals without a miss streak to 20 shots in a row. Fertig also added a team-high nine rebounds and had three blocks in the loss. Quinn Weidemann also ended in double figures as she chipped in with 13. Tommi Olson and Malene Pedersen led the Cowgirls with five and four assists, respectively.

Fertig is now up to 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game during league play this season and is shooting an incredible 62.6-percent from the field and is also averaging over two blocks per game defensively in Mountain West action. Weidemann and Pedersen also come in averaging double-digit scoring in conference play, averaging 11.2 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting nearly 46-percent from the field through 15 MW games, despite shooting under 30-percent from 3-point range.

SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE
San Diego State is led by All-Mountain West performer, Sophia Ramos, who leads the team averaging 12 points per game and has 108 assists. Ramos also leads the team with 51 made 3-pointers and is third with 43 steals. The Aztecs are pretty balanced offensively, as five other players are averaging 7.9 points per game or better. Asia Avinger and Mercedes Staples score in double figures at 11.9 and 10.9 points per game, respectively. Avinger is second on the team with 100 assists, but her 4.3 per contest are a team-high. Avinger also leads the team with 50 steals in 2022-23. Kim Villalobos leads SDSU at five rebounds per contest. Villalobos and Yummy Morris are the only two Aztecs to have started in all 28 games this season.

SDSU is tops in the league allowing opponents to score just 56 points per game and is holding opponents to 38-percent shooting overall and 27.6-percent from 3-point range. The defensive 3-point percentage leads the MW while the Aztecs' 34.7-percent from beyond-the-arc ranks second-best in the conference. San Diego State shooting the ball at 44-percent overall from the field. The Aztecs are 14-1 at home this season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST SAN DIEGO STATE
Wyoming leads the all-time series against the Aztecs, 35-30 and is just 9-18 in San Diego. The Cowgirls won the last meeting on the road, 62-54 in December of last season. SDSU defeated the Cowgirls, 73-66 in the earlier meeting this season in Laramie. Weidemann led UW with 19 points in that contest. In nine previous career games against the Aztecs, Weidemann is averaging 10.3 points per game.
