HOUSTON, Texas (2/17/23) – The University of Wyoming women's swimming and diving team continues to swim well at the Mountain West Conference Championships inside CRWC Natatorium. The Cowgirls had a number of student-athletes earn a spot on the podium Friday during Day 3.
"The real highlight of today was the way the women stepped up and raced in prelims to make the finals," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "We had 16 opportunities to score and six made the A Final, five made the B Final and four made the C Final."
Wyoming remains in fourth as a team with 626 points. San Diego State still leads the way, having scored 1,119 points, while UNLV and Nevada round out the top three with 712.5 and 655 points, respectively.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team began the night in fine form. The team of
Kali Franckowiak,
Mikayla Moore,
Emily Giles and
Lauren Swartz touched fourth with a time of 1:32.31.
Maisyn Klimczak and
Kali Franckowiak both finished in the top-six of the 200-yard freestyle. Klimczak took third with a career-best time of 1:48.53, while Franckowiak was sixth at a career-best 1:49.88.
Carly Palmer and
Sydney McKenzie did something very similar in the 100-yard breaststroke. Palmer took fourth, clocking in at 1:00.88, and McKenzie went a career-best 1:01.27 to place sixth.
"Our breaststrokers and 200 freestylers really performed well," Denniston said.
Emily Giles closed the day, placing seventh in the 100-yard backstroke. She registered a time of 54.96.
"The energy is high, and we are looking forward to a big day tomorrow," Denniston said. "We will move up."
The championships conclude Saturday. Preliminary races of the 200-yard backstroke go at 9:30 a.m.
