LARAMIE, Wyo. (11/28/23) – Jack O'Neil checked another box on his impressive and growing international competition resume this past week. The University of Wyoming swimmer competed in the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chili.

"It was super awesome to be in another country, and the city of Santiago embraced everything about it," O'Neil said. "Every session was packed with fans. It felt like a college football game, which was a nice change for a swimmer. It was awesome to have a sweet walk-out, get up on the blocks and have a ton of people watching."

O'Neil, who was battling and arm injury in the weeks leading up to the Games, competed in four events. He earned three silvers – one in the 100-meter backstroke, one as a member of the mixed 400-meter medley relay and one as a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay – to go alongside a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle.

"Given my last month, I wasn't 100 percent sure that I was going to be able to compete," O'Neil said. "So to come home with three medals and to be competitive in every single event I swam was awesome."

The Games marked the last international meet for O'Neil until the U.S. Paralympic Trials in late June in Minneapolis. That meet will see O'Neil participate in both the 100 free and back with a chance to qualify for the Paras Games later that summer.
