GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (11/16/23) – The University of Wyoming swim team completed Day 2 of the Colorado Mesa Invite on Thursday. The Cowgirls finished the night authoritatively inside El Pomar Natatorium.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team – comprised of
Tara Joyce,
Kali Franckowiak,
Rachael Horne and
Lauren Swartz – won with a time of 1:32.23. That performance helped the Cowgirls vault into second in the team standings with 372 points.
The host Mavericks lead the women's team scores at 441. The Wyoming men's team is in third with 247 points, as Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines sit one and two with 610 and 295 points, respectively.
"One of the reasons we chose this meet was to swim fast and take advantage of the altitude conversions of our times," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "We are seeing fantastic times, as a result. We will add more over the next few days, and I'm excited to see some more PRs and other records go down."
Quinn Cynor was one of those. He set the team, pool and meet record in the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:24.55.
Charlie Clark and
Adam Pannell led the way for the Cowboys on Thursday. They went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:25.87 and 4:28.50.
Maisyn Klimczak led off the night with a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle. She went a 4:52.35.
Carly Palmer also took second in the 200-yard individual medley, logging a time of 2:01.92. Drew Ravegum made a carbon copy of that performance, touching second in the men's race at 1:49.89.
Swartz rounded out the top-two individual performances. She registered a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle after recording a time of 23.59.
The Colorado Mesa Invite continues Friday.
