GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (11/15/23) – The University of Wyoming swim team completed Day 1 of the Colorado Mesa Invite Wednesday. A pair of Cowboy and Cowgirl relays registered solid performances inside El Pomar Natatorium.
"Two fast relays off a day of travel was challenging, but we stepped up," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "Our anchor legs on both men's and women's 800 relays were outstanding. I think we will swim faster and faster as the meet progresses."
The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team – made up of
Gavin Smith,
Caleb Ozenne,
Luke Walker and
Quinn Cynor – highlighted the evening. They won after boasting a time of 6:29.06.
The women's 800-yard freestyle relay – entailing
Carly Palmer,
Maisyn Klimczak,
Kali Franckowiak and
Tara Joyce – finished second, recording a time of 7:19.08.
The 200-yard medley relay team – comprised of
Emily Giles, Palmer,
Sydney McKenzie and
Lauren Swartz – also placed runner-up with a time of 1:41.66. The men's relay followed suit, as Cynor,
John Wargin, Smith and
Matt Lang, took second after logging a time of 1:27.32.
Both the men's and women's teams sit in fourth after one day. The competition continues Thursday.
