LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 6,2023) –The Wyoming Cowboy basketball team is prepping for the 2023-24 season and are a little over a month away from their opener. Wyoming welcomes 11 new faces to the program for the campaign, as GoWyo.com will help you get to know the "New Guys" in the Brown and Gold.
Akuel (pronounced - uh-Quail) Kot spent four seasons at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He earned First Team All-American honors from the NABC last season. He was also named All-RMA twice in his career and named the MVP of the RMAC Tournament last season. He averaged 23.4 points per game last season to rank fourth in NCAA II. He cored 20 or more points in 20 games and scored 30 or more eight times. He recorded 45 points in a contest last November. He set a program record with 801 points last season shooting 52 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line. He also added 3.2 rebounds per game and had 39 steals. Kot ranked eighth in the nation last season with 249 made field goals. He also made 226 free throws to rank second in the nation. He scored 1,712 points in his career at Fort Lewis to rank fifth all-time at the school. As a junior, Kot averaged 16.6 points per game and shot 43 percent from behind the arc.

Why Did you Choose to come to play for the Cowboys?
The great opportunity for my basketball career. It is also a chance to play in a new and exciting environment. I want to compete and enjoy my final year playing at a great program.
Who do you model your game after?
I have really modeled l my game after Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant. They had a great ability to get to their spots and make shots.
Biggest Ability on the Floor?
I think my biggest ability on the floor is to score the basketball. I have developed my game to be able to score at all three levels efficiently.
Favorite thing to do in Laramie?
We played golf this summer. It was really my first time doing it and it was great to be around the guys. I just enjoyed being around the guys talking about basketball and life.
What are you looking forward to most this season?
I look forward to bonding more with this team on the floor and see if we can use that energy when game time comes. We want to be in position to play Cowboy Basketball at a high level.
