LARAMIE, Wyo. (10/28/23) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team honored its seniors Saturday at Laramie High School. And it did so with a couple of victories.

The Cowgirls defeated Colorado School of Mines, 137-81. That improves the women's team to 3-0 on the season.

The Cowboys also remained unbeaten on the year. They downed the Orediggers, 138-82, to push their record to 2-0.

"This meet was a great way to celebrate our seniors and all of the fun they have brought to our program," head coach Dave Denniston said. "We had multiple races ending in smiles for our team, and it was nice to enjoy racing."

Wyoming won all but four races Saturday. Eight of those events featured the home team going 1-2, four of them saw Wyoming going 1-2-3 and a pair of races had UW place a swimmer in each of the top-four spots.

Carly Palmer won a pair of individual races in the 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard breaststroke. Heidi Billings took first a couple of times, as well, as a member of the 400-yard medley relay and in the 200-yard backstroke. Samantha Diaz and Rachael Horne were also on that medley relay, and both swam a leg of the victorious 200-yard free relay.

Brynlee Busskohl, Sage Morton, Emily Giles, Sophie Nutter, Tara Joyce, Maisyn Klimczak, Emily Burchett and Lauren Swartz rounded out the first-place finishing Cowgirls.

Quinn Cynor paced the Cowboys with a trio of firsts. He topped the field in the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard IM and as a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Quinn Teller participated on that 200 free relay and topped the field in the 50-yard fly. Wargin was on the 400 medley relay team and won the 50-yard breaststroke, while Matt Lang rounded out the multiple-winner Cowboys as a member of the 200 free relay and in the 50-yard freestyle.

Reilly Gilbert, Harry Tjaden, Jakob Borrman, Derek Long, Kane Kriz, Charlie Clark and Gavin Smith represented the other Cowboys that claimed a win Saturday.

"We had phenomenal support in the stands," Denniston said. "Several students from White Hall showed up to cheer and our team ate it up. Today was the perfect way to celebrate our seniors and what our team is capable of doing in the pool."

Wyoming is back in action Friday. The Cowboys and Cowgirls host Colorado Mesa at Laramie High School at 3 p.m.
