LARAMIE, Wyo. (10/24/23) – The University of Wyoming soccer team closes out its season Thursday. The Cowgirls host Colorado State at 3 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
Wyoming enters the game with a 6-7-5 overall record and a 2-6-2 (8 points) mark in Mountain West Conference play. The Rams own a 10-5-3 overall record and a 5-3-2 (17 points) record in league action.
Thursday represents the end of the season for the Cowgirls, as they can't advance to the conference tournament held in Laramie, beginning on Sunday. The top six in the final standings make it to the postseason tournament, and the Cowgirls stand four points behind Fresno State for the sixth spot.
All that being said, Thursday's match doesn't lack importance for the home team. Wyoming has never lost to its rivals from down south, owning a 9-0-1 mark all-time, and it'll look to keep that unblemished record and jumpstart its offseason program with a strong showing.
"I'm looking forward to one last home stand with this group of seniors, and I'm excited for our team to compete for them Thursday," head coach
Colleen Corbin said. "This group of seniors is leaving Wyoming soccer better than they found it, and I'm so proud to have been a small part of each of their journeys -- all different and unique but all special."
The Rams will be competing in the conference tournament. They are currently positioned fourth and can't move up nor down, so they'll be playing in the quarterfinals this Sunday.
Wyoming is coming off a tough road swing. The Cowgirls dropped a 5-1 decision at San Diego State last week before drawing with New Mexico, 2-2, on Sunday.
Alyssa Glover netted her sixth goal of the season Thursday, which leads the team.
Jazi Barela scored against the Lobos to give her five scores for the season.
Maddi Chance has also found the back of the net five times in 2023.
Miyuki Shoyen has started the majority of games, 10, at goalkeeper for the Cowgirls. She's allowed 14 goals with 52 saves for a GAA of 1.40 with three shutouts.
Olivia Fout paces not only Colorado State but the conference with 11 goals.
Liv Stutzman and Mia Casey chip in four goals apiece.
Shayna Ross has started all 16 games in net for the Rams. She's yielded 22 goals with 65 saves for a GAA of 1.22 with seven shutouts.
Wyoming returns to the pitch in the spring. It'll participate in a spring soccer slate that will be announced at a later date.
