RENO, Nev. (Jan. 15, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team closes its week on the road Monday with a 7:30 p.m., MT contest at Nevada. Wyoming is looking to make it five-straight wins, including all three on this current road trip.
Monday's game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (11-5, 4-1 MW) is coming off a hard-fought 64-48 victory Saturday at San Jose State. The Cowgirls used a balanced offensive attack in the victory as six Cowgirls scored eight-or-more points. Emily Mellema led the way with 12 points, which she scored all in the final 2:34 of the contest. Mellema hit a career-high 10-for-10 at the free-throw line as well. Allyson Fertig, Tommi Olson, Ola Ustowska and Quinn Weidemann all added nine points each while Malene Pedersen chipped in eight. Off the bench, Marta Savic had career-highs with 15 rebounds and four assists against the Spartans.
In conference play this season, UW has four averaging in double figures through five games. Weidemann leads the way, as she does in all contests in 2022-23, at 12.2 points per game. Pedersen comes in at 11.8 per contest while Grace Ellis and Fertig are at 11.4 each in Mountain West action. The Cowgirls have a plus-five scoring differential in league contests and are shooting 47.4-percent from the floor as a team and making over 88-percent of their free throws.
In the conference ranks, Weidemann enters Monday second in the league making 2.06 3-pointers per game while her 42.3-percent shooting from beyond-the-arc ranks third-best. Fertig is second in the conference averaging 9.2 rebounds per contest and is third with 1.81 blocks a game. As a team, UW ranks in the top-half of the MW in 14 statistical categories.
SCOUTING NEVADA
Nevada has a balanced offensive attack in 2022-23 as five student-athletes are averaging at least 9.3 points per game. The Wolfpack is led by Alyssa Jimenez's 10.4 points per game. Jimenez also leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per contest, 35 assists and 32 steals. Audrey Roden is averaging 10 points per game while Lexie Givens is at 9.9 per and is shooting nearly 45-percent from the floor. Victoria Davis and Megan Ormiston average 9.4 and 9.3 points per game, respectively. Davis is shooting a team-high 54.2-percent from 3-point range.
The Wolfpack, who are 5-4 at home this season, are averaging 66.6 points per game and are allowing an even 67 points per game. Nevada shoots 39.6-percent from the floor overall and 30.6-percent from beyond-the-arc. Nevada opponents come in at 41.8-percent shooting and are hitting just under 30-percent from 3-point range. The Wolfpack average just over 37 rebounds per contest.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST NEVADA
Wyoming leads the all-time series against the Wolfpack, 21-9. Seven of those nine losses have come in Reno, where the Cowgirls are 5-7 all-time. Nevada won both contests in Reno in January of 2021, the last time UW played on the road in the series. Wyoming won the lone contest last season with the Wolfpack, 62-53 in Laramie.
