Cowgirls Travel to San Jose State Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 12, 2023) – The Wyoming Cowgirls hit the middle game of their current three-game road trip Saturday with a trip to San Jose State for a 3 p.m., MT contest.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.

ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (10-5, 3-1 MW) is on a three-game winning streak thanks to its thrilling comeback win Wednesday night at Air Force, 61-60. The Cowgirls trailed by three with 23 seconds remaining and AFA with the ball before a couple of clutch defensive plays and Tommi Olson's running layup with 5.2 seconds left, helped the Cowgirls prevail for the shocking victory. UW shot an even 50-percent overall from the floor in the victory and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Quinn Weidemann led the Cowgirls with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting in the win. Weidemann went 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and added two assists and a block. Allyson Fertig and Malene Pedersen also finished in double figures against the Falcons. Fertig had 14 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting and also grabbed a game-high seven boards on the night. Pedersen, meanwhile, added 10 points and dished-out a career-high seven assists.

Through four conference games this season, the Cowgirls have four student-athletes scoring at least 12 points per game. Weidemann leads the way for Wyoming at 13 points per game while Grace Ellis and Pedersen are averaging 12.8 each and Fertig averages 12 points and nine rebounds a contest. Weidemann also leads the way offensively averaging 12.8 points per game throughout the entirety of the season and is shooting nearly 44-percent from beyond-the-arc.

IN THE RECORD BOOK
Weidemann is fourth all-time at Wyoming in made 3-pointers with 230 makes and is sixth all-time in attempts with 556. Her career 3-point percentage of .414 is fourth all-time among Cowgirls while her 86.5-percent career free-throw percentage is fourth all-time. Weidemann's 281 career assists are 15th in program history and her 1,305 career points are 16th-best. With an appearance against San Jose, Weidemann would tie the program record for most career games played at UW with 133.

Olson, meanwhile, has a career-high of nine steals in a game, which is tied for the most in a single game in school history. Her 159 career steals are eighth all-time in program history and her 326 career assists are 11th all-time. Allyson Fertig's 14 career double-doubles are 14th in program history and her 55 career blocks are 17th all-time.

SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE
SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE San Jose State is led by a pair of scorers averaging nearly the same figures per game in Marisa Davis-Jones and Jada Holland, who enter Saturday averaging 10.2 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. Davis-Jones leads the Spartans in rebounding as well at 6.4 per contest while Holland has a team-best 44 assists and 35 steals. SJSU is very balanced offensively after that, with five student-athletes averaging 4.8 points per game or more on the season.

As a team, the Spartans are scoring at nearly 54 points per game while opponents are scoring at a 66.3 point per game clip. San Jose is shooting 35-percent from the floor as a team and 27-percent from 3-point range. Spartan opponents, meanwhile, are shooting over 43-percent overall and 31.5-percent from 3-point range while also outrebounding SJSU by 3.5 boards per contest as a team.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST SAN JOSE STATE
The Cowgirls are 14-3 all-time in the series against the Spartans and have won nine-straight, dating back to the 2016 season. Two of San Jose State's three wins in the series have come in San Jose. Last season, both of UW's wins came in a five-day span with an average margin-of-victory of 20.5 points per game.
