LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept.8, 2022) – The National Football League season officially opens tonight with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills taking on the defending Super Bowl Champions the Los Angeles Rams. Eight former Cowboys are on active rosters to open the season with two others on practice squads.
Allen has been voted as the No. 13 player in the NFL on the "Top 100 Players of 2022" rankings. He threw for 4,407 yards last season with 36 touchdowns. He had the highest passer rating in a single postseason in NFL history at 149.0. The Bills face the Rams tonight at 6:20 p.m. MT on NBC.
Marcus Epps sits atop the Eagles depth chart at strong safety. He played in 16 games last season with three starts, as he recorded 62 tackles. The Eagles open the season against the Detroit Lions at 11 a.m. MT on Fox.
Carl Granderson will be in the rotation at defensive end once again for the New Orleans Saints. He played in 16 games last season with 25 total tackles in four starts. He finished the season with three sacks. The Saints open the season on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT at the Atlanta Falcons on Fox.
Andrew Wingard and
Chad Muma open the season with the Jaguars facing off against Washington Commanders on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT on Fox. Wingard and Muma are second on the depth chart at Safety and Linebacker respectively. Wingard recorded 88 total tackles a season with one interception. Muma was a Third-Round pick of the Jaguars and is set to make his NFL debut.
Mike Purcell will once again suit up for his hometown Denver Broncos. He appeared in 13 games last season with 33 tackles. He will be in the rotation on the defensive line this season. The Broncos take on Monday Night Football at 6:15 p.m. on ESPN against the Seattle Seahawks.
Chase Roullier will once again be the center for the Washington Commanders this season. He appeared in only eight games a season ago but will appear in his 68
th career game when he faces off against former Cowboys Wingard and Muma and the Jags on Sunday.
Logan Wilson, who helped lead the Bengals to the Super Bowl last season will open the campaign against the Steelers on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT on CBS. He recorded 100 tackles a season ago and ranked tied for 12
th in the NFL with four interceptions. He led the team in both tackles and interceptions last season in just his second year in the NFL.
Tanner Gentry is on the Bills practice squad this season. Tashaun Gipson, who joined the 49ers during camp is on the practice squad as the season starts.
Rico Gafford, who moved back to cornerback for the Green Bay Packers was recently released from the practice squad. Jacob Hollister of the Raiders and Tyler Hall of the Rams reached injury settlements following camp.
