Laramie, Wyo. (May 12, 2022) --  Former University of Wyoming running back Trey Smith is joining the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent.  Smith rushed for 1,217 yards during his college career.  He rushed for 802 of those yards after transferring to Wyoming from the University of Louisville.

For his career, Smith played in 21 games as a Cowboy.  He helped lead UW to two bowl appearances and two bowl wins in the 2019 Arizona Bowl and the 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

A versatile back who was effective as both a rusher and receiver out of the backfield, Smith was a key component of a Wyoming offense that ranked among the Top 25 rushing offenses in the nation in all three seasons he competed for the Cowboys.  Wyoming ranked No. 20 among FBS teams in rushing offense in 2021, No. 14 in the nation in 2020 and No. 23 in the country in 2019.

Smith recorded three 150-yard rushing games at Wyoming.  He ran for 152 yards versus Idaho in 2019.  Smith had a career best 164 rushing yards at UNLV in 2020, and ran for 154 yards against New Mexico also in 2020.

By being picked up by Jacksonville, Smith will join his former college teammate, linebacker Chad Muma, who was selected by the Jaguars as the sixth pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.  Smith also follows his father, Jimmy Smith, who was the Jaguars career receiving leader during his NFL playing career.

Smith becomes the fifth Cowboy from the 2021 Wyoming Cowboy roster to earn an NFL opportunity this spring.  He joins Muma, Garrett Crall, Keegan Cryder and Logan Harris as Cowboys who earned NFL opportunities this spring.  Crall, a defensive end, is joining the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent.  Cryder, an offensive lineman, is joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, and Harris, an offensive guard, was picked up by the Detroit Lions.
