Cowboys Open Road Swing at San Jose State

Contest on Stadium and MW Network

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 10, 2022) – The Cowboys hit the road for a two-game road swing opening with San Jose State on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Provident Credit Union Event Center in a contest on Stadium and the Mountain West Network. The Pokes are winners of five-straight contests and are receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll.
 
Fans can watch, listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The contest will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Reece Monaco will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.
 
About The Teams
Wyoming has won five-straight contests after downing Utah State in overtime 78-76 on Tuesday evening in Laramie. The Pokes have earned wins over four of the top six teams in the conference over the last four games. The Cowboys are 6-0 this season in contest decided by two points. The Cowboys are shooting 48 percent from the field and are holding opponents to 41.7 percent. Wyoming, who is going up against one of the top three-point shooting teams in the nation rank eighth in the nation in three-point percentage defense at 28.1 percent. The Cowboys hit 35.6 percent of their shots from behind the arc.
 
The Spartans have  lost 11 in a row by an average of 17.5 points. San Jose State ranks ninth in the league in both offensive production (65.8 points per game) and defensive effectiveness (72.3 points allowed per contest). The Spartans also rank ninth in field goal percentage at 43.1 percent, while they allow foes to shoot 45.9 percent from the floor, which ranks last in the conference.
 
About The Players
Wyoming is led by scoring this season by Graham Ike at 20.4 per game to rank second in the league. He also leads the team in rebounds at nine per game for third in the MW. He is one of three players in the nation to average over 20 points per game and nine or more rebounds. He along with Hunter Maldonado are the nation's top scoring duo, as Maldonado adds 19.5 points per game to rank third in the MW. He leads the conference and ranks fourth in the nation with 6.4 assists per game. Drake Jeffries adds 10.9 points per night and ranks fifth in the nation shooting 46 percent from behind the arc.
 
The Spartans are unquestionably led by Omari Moore. He pours in a team-high 13.1 points per game, while he also grabs a team-best 5.4 rebounds and dishes out 4.7 assists per contest. Moore is also tops on the squad with 23 blocks and 22 steals. Trey Anderson chips in 9.6 points per game, leading a grouping of five players that average anywhere between 8.1 and 9.6 points per game.
 
About The Series
Wyoming leads the all-time series with San Jose State, 19-2, in a series that dates back to 1965. The Pokes have won 11 meetings in a row, which includes an 84-69 victory in Laramie last month. Wyoming is 7-2 all-time in San Jose.
