Cowboy Cagers Host No. 22 New Mexico on Saturday Afternoon

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 29, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowboys entertain the No. 22 New Mexico Lobos in the Arena-Auditorium on Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. start in a New Year's Eve clash. The Pokes will look for their first home win over a top-25 team since the 2018.

Fans can listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Keith Kelley will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.

David Gascon will be on the call on FS1 with Bill Herenda on color.

About The Teams

The Cowboys enter the contest with a 5-8 overall record and a 0-1 mark in the Mountain West after falling to Fresno State on the road by a score of 58-53 on Wednesday. The Cowboys have held opponents to 66 points or fewer in four-straight games. Wyoming is averaging 70.5 points per game and are allowing 68.5 per night. The Pokes are shooting 45 percent from the field along with their opponents. Both teams are shooting 34 percent from the three-point line with the Cowboys adding nine makes per game and opponents hiiting 7.8 per contest.

New Mexico has gotten off to a dream start this season. The Lobos have won their first 13 games and earned the No. 22 ranking in the latest AP Poll. New Mexico was picked to finish fifth in the preseason Mountain West Conference poll.

Hunter Maldonado averages 12.3 points per game 4.1 rebounds. He leads the team with 43 assists on the season and has 17 steals. Hunter Thompson leads the team this season with 5.1 rebounds per game. He also adds 7.2 points per game for the season. Wyoming has four players that average over four rebounds per game on the season.

Jaelen House paces New Mexico, pouring in 17.2 points per game to go alongside a team-best 5.3 assists per contest. Jamal Mashburn Jr. and Morris Udeze each add 16.9 points per game. Udeze also records a team-best 7.8 rebounds per contest.

The Lobos average 84.8 points per game and only allow foes to score 67.8 points per contest. New Mexico connects on 49.3 percent of its field-goal attempts, which includes 36.1 percent accuracy from beyond the 3-point line. Lobos' opponents make 39.9 percent of their shots from the floor and 31.9 percent of their attempts from deep.

Wyoming trails the all-time series with New Mexico, 76-71. That being said, the Pokes have won three of the last four meetings and the most recent matchup in Laramie, claiming a 93-91 victory last season.
