COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of Wyoming Track & Field athletes Cameron Burkett and Kareem Mersal were named the Mountain West Male Freshman of the Week and Mountain West Male Field Athlete of the Week by the conference on Tuesday December 13th. 

Cameron Burkett went 57-0.50 in the shot put to win and best his competition from South Dakota School of Mines and St. Martins (Seattle). It was the freshman from Kelly Walsh HS in Casper, Wyo. first meet in the brown and gold. 

Kareem Mersal was named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Long Jump. Mersal went 25-0.50 to lead the field at the Power Meet. Mersal is the reigning Mountain West Indoor Champion in the event. 

The Pokes next competition is slated for after the new year when they will head to the Potts Invite in Boulder, Colo. on January 13th and 14th.
