LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 9, 2022) – Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Head Coach Heather Ezell has announced the signings of a trio of student-athletes to her first recruiting class. Mikyn Hamlin, Maren McKenna and Madison Symons all signed their National Letters of Intent Wednesday and will join the Cowgirls next fall.

"We are excited to add Madison, Maren and Mikyn to the Cowgirl Basketball program," said Ezell.

"All three have bright futures in the Brown & Gold. They love the game of basketball and have put in the work with very good coaches across their prep and club seasons to be immediate impacts at the collegiate level."

Mikyn Hamlin | 5-8 | Guard | Hugoton, Kan.
Hamlin has been a decorated student-athlete at Hugoton High School, where she has been a multiple-time letterwinner in basketball, track and volleyball. During her basketball career at Hugoton, Hamlin has been a three-time First Team All-GWAC honoree, including being the league's Most Valuable Player three times as well. Hamlin has also been an All-State selection and a multiple-time State Player of the Year Finalist.

"Mikyn is a player every coach wants on their team," said Ezell.

"She impacts the game in every aspect, both defensively and offensively. She can guard one through four in our system and offensively, she can play multiple positions in our motion."

Maren McKenna | 5-9 | Guard | Hyde Park, Utah
McKenna has been a two-time All-State (1st and 3rd team) honoree at Green Canyon High School. McKenna was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Utah State Tournament and was named the Coca-Cola Winter Player of the Year while also being a team captain. McKenna is also a highly-decorated tennis and track and field athlete and won the state title in the javelin. She was also named the Green Canyon Female Athlete of the Year following her sophomore and junior years.

"Maren is an athletic wing that can shoot the ball from deep, as well as get to the rim off the dribble," commented Ezell.

"Her ability to see the floor and think a play ahead on both ends of the floor, will make her a tremendous addition to our backcourt."

Madison Symons | 6-0 | Forward | Coeur d' Alene, Idaho
Symons has been a two-time IEL Most Valuable Player and North Idaho Hall of Fame Female Basketball Player of the Year. She has also been a three-time First Team All-IEL honoree and helped lead Coeur d' Alene to two district titles and three league championships. Coeur d' Alene has also been to two state tournaments. Symons, who holds numerous school records, including single-season scoring and rebounding marks, is also a three-time Idaho All-State selection.

"Madison is a strong stretch four that can impact the game in many ways," said Ezell.

"Her ability to score around the basket, as well as stretch the defense from the 3-point line, will translate very well to our style of play. She is also a great rebounder, that can get rebounds out of her area on both the offensive and defensive ends."
