DALLAS, Texas (11/19/22) – University of Wyoming's Maisyn Klimczak started her SMU Invitational strong on Wednesday with a personal-best in the 500-yard freestyle. She closed her meet Saturday even stronger.
Klimczak broke a pair of school records inside Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. She went 9:55.46 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and backed that up with a 16:24.24 in the 1,650-yard freestyle en route to victory.
"We had a great meet at SMU," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "It was highlighted by our distance swimmers in the mile, as they won both races. We also saw a lot of younger swimmers really step up and perform. Too many highlights to list, but I'm excited for the rest of the season."
As Denniston alluded to, Wyoming won the men's 1,650 free, as well. Charlie Clark swam a 15:26.35 to top the field.
Daniel Cumnock-Francois also finished inside the top-10, taking eighth at 15:49.45. Caleb Ozenne placed 10th after swimming a 15:52.60.
Klimczak wasn't alone in the mile, either. Roxy Ramirez touched third at 16:49.04, and
Sage Morton placed fourth at 16:55.16.
There were many other top-10 finishes Saturday in a meet where Wyoming's men's team finished fourth and the women took fifth.
Harry Tjaden and Quinn Cynor finished alongside one another in the 200-yard butterfly. Tjaden swam a 1:47.57 to place fifth, while Cynor went 1:47.76 to take sixth.
Collin Davis and
Andrew Rodriguez touched ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke. Davis swam a 1:48.08 and Rodriguez recorded a time of 1:48.33.
Nettie Knapton placed ninth in platform after compiling a score of 191.35.
Payton Lee took fifth in the same event, logging a finals score of 243.20.
Emily Giles rounded out the top-10 placers. She took 10th in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:01.92.
Wyoming takes nearly two months off before its next competition. It'll host Denver on Jan. 7 for its Senior Day at Laramie High School.
