LARAMIE, Wyo. (11/9/22) – University of Wyoming soccer head coach Colleen Corbin signed an eclectic 2023 signing class. The collection of eight stretches as far north as Wyoming, as far east as North Carolina and as far south and west as Arizona.
The coaching staff is eager to get the incoming freshmen on campus to see how their talents' blossom.
"They're group of young women who genuinely value what it means to be a Cowgirl," Corbin said. "They have already completely bought into the brand, bought into the identity and are excited about coming in and helping us continue to develop the culture that we value so highly in our program."
As stated, the class features players from many different states, seven to be exact. The class also encompasses all four positional groups – four defensemen, two midfielders, one forward and one goalkeeper.
"We are also excited about the diversity the class is going to bring, coming from all different parts of the country, different playing backgrounds," Corbin said. "It's really an eclectic group of really phenomenal human beings and gritty soccer players."
Below is a list of the signees…
Kiley Ballek (Fort Collins, Colorado)
Ballek is a midfielder from just south on Highway 287. She played high school soccer at Fossil Ridge High School and club ball for Real Colorado ECNL.
"She's a natural goal-scorer," Corbin said. "She's fast, strong, gritty, and is the type of player that's going to run through anyone to go get the ball. She will fit in very nicely whether she ends up in the midfield or the front line."
Haley Bartel (Gilbert, Arizona)
Bartel is a goalkeeper and one of two players in the 2023 class from the state of Arizona. She played high school soccer at Highland High School and club ball for AZ Arsenal ECNL.
"The goal for us was try and enhance the depth of that goalkeeper position and create a more competitive environment, and Haley is only going to add to that," Corbin said. "She's hyper-competitive. She's a hilarious, goofy human who really, really loves what she does and has been over the moon excited to be a Cowgirl."
Ally Boysen (Cody, Wyoming)
Boysen is a forward hailing from the Equality State. She played high school soccer at Cody High School and club ball for Gillette Edge.
"To represent her home state is obviously exciting for her but also for us," Corbin said. "We know our student-athletes that come out of Wyoming feel an extra level of excitement and pride about playing for Wyoming. She's tall, strong and athletic, and she's going to give us a different look up top in our front line."
Khari Carreno (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma)
Carreno is a defender from the Tulsa area. She played high school soccer at Union High School and club ball for Tulsa SC.
"She's athletic, quick and shifty," Corbin said. "She's definitely an offensively-minded defender that's not afraid to join the attack. Our outside backs joining the attack, earning assists, creating goal-scoring opportunities, she's only going to help strengthen that identity for us."
Eve Laycock (North Salt Lake, Utah)
Laycock is a defender out of Utah. She played high school soccer at Woods Cross High School and club ball for La Roca ECNL.
"Eve is feisty," Corbin said. "She is a very strong in the tackle. She's just bubbly and delightful and so fun to be around. She fell in love with Laramie the second she was on campus, so we are excited to add her grit and her joy to our program."
Raegan Richardson (Queen Creek, Arizona)
Richardson is a midfielder from the Phoenix area. She played high school soccer at Queen Creek High School and club ball for AZ Arsenal ECNL.
"She's athletic and has good size," Corbin said. "She's a good arial-ball winner. She's going to add some height to our midfield. She's really flexible. You can put her anywhere. We are excited to have her creativity, her athleticism, her strength and goal-scoring ability out of the midfield."
Rylee Schroder (Lebanon, Ohio)
Schroder is a defender from the Cincinnati area. She played high school soccer at Lebanon High School and club ball for CUP GA.
"She's a workhorse, Corbin said. "She will add speed and creativity to our backline. She has the ability to build and play out of the back while also acting as a lockdown one-v-one defender. She will enhance our backline."
Amayah Singleton (Wake Forest, North Carolina)
Singleton is a defender from the Raleigh area. She played high school soccer at Heritage High School and club ball for Wake FC GA.
"She has national team experience with the Panama National Team," Corbin said. "That international experience is always beneficial when you bring somebody like that into the group. She is very fast and can run pretty much anybody down, so being able to utilize her in the backline, especially in the Mountain West where it's a pacey, athletic conference is always helpful."
