Cowboys and Cowgirls Both Finish in the Top Ten at Griak Invitational

St. Paul, Minn. — The University of Wyoming Cross Country Teams returned to action on Friday morning as they competed against a very competitive field at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Cowboys and Cowgirls both turned in strong performances with each squad finishing in the top ten of their respective 21 team fields. 
 
"Both teams ran well today, they worked together and competed tough. They put themselves in good positions early on and competed the entire race." Head Cross Country Coach Scot Dahlberg said "We saw good improvements from the last race and are encouraged about the next one."
 
Senior Oisin O'Gailin led the way for the Cowboys with a strong performance clocking a time of 25:05.5 to finish 19th. Redshirt Sophomore Seth Bruxvoort came in just behind O'Gailin at a time of 25:11.6 to finish 25th. Sophomore Gus McIntyre finished in 36th posting a time of 25:23.9. Mason Norman and Jerald Taylor rounded out the top five runners for the Cowboys finishing 49th and 57th respectively.
 
As a team, the Cowboys had a total score of 175 points earning them a fifth place and beating out Santa Clara by just three points for the top five spot. No. 3 ranked BYU won the men's race with 34 points while Iowa State finished one point behind them in second. 
 
For the Cowgirls, it was Senior Katelyn Mitchem who turned in the best performance running a 21:51.7 to finish 26h overall. Freshman Libby McGrath was the second highest Cowgirl finisher coming in 45th with a time of 22:19.4. Fellow freshman Kylie Simshauser crossed the line in 54th place with a time of 22:26.8. Rounding out the top five for the Cowgirls were Addi Iken and Abigail Whitman who finished 68th and 71st respectively.
 
In the team standing the Cowgirls tallied 251 points which landed them in ninth place, just over 100 points ahead of the tenth-place team. Host school Minnesota won the women's race with 51 points while Iowa State finished second with 81 points. 
 
Up next the Cowboy and Cowgirl Cross Country squads will head to Tallahassee, Florida on Oct. 15 for the Pre-Nationals host by Florida State.
