LARAMIE, Wyo. (August 4, 2021) – A pair of former Wyoming student-athletes are competing on the world's biggest stage participating in the Olympics in Tokyo. Mason Finley represented the United States in the discus throw and Nathan Sobey is representing Australia in men's basketball.
Sobey has helped lead the Australians to the semifinals in men's basketball. The Boomers will face the United States on Wednesday evening at 10:15 p.m. MT. on the NBC Family of Networks and the Peacock App.
Sobey is playing 6.2 minutes per game so far in the Olympics. He is averaging 3.0 points per game shooting 50 percent from the field and behind the arc. He is also adding a rebound per game and 0.5 assists per contest.
Finley won the Men's Discus at the 2021 U.S Olympic Trials. With his best throw of the day at 206-11, as he competed in his second-straight Olympic games. He did not qualify for the finals in the discus throw placing No. 12 in group B, as he competed on July 29. He threw for 197-11 during the preliminaries.
