CLOVIS, Calif. — The University of Wyoming Track & Field teams took to Veterans Memorial Stadium for day two of the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Championships on Friday. Four Cowboys placed in the top three of their respective events while a total of 11 student-athletes earned points for Wyoming.

Heading in to the third and final day of competition the Cowboys sit in third place with 50 team points, just two and half away from the second place Air Force Falcons.

"Overall it was a good day with several top 3 finishes and all-time top 10 marks at UW. It was a typical championship day with some ups and downs throughout" said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. "The good news is we ended the day with some high scoring events so hopefully we can carry that momentum into tomorrow."

The first points on the board for the Cowboys came by way of Kareem Mersal and Alec Richardson in the Long Jump. Mersal took second place in the event with a mark of 23-3.25 to earn eight points for the Cowboys, while Richardson went 23-1.75 to set a personal best and gain five points for the squad.

Hap Frketich posted another eight points for the Cowboys as the Cowboy senior took second place in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 195-3. Frketich has been consistent all season for the Pokes in the event. Kirk Unland did not place in the event. Unland, the reigning Mountain West champ and No. 6 on the UW All-Time Top 10 List in the event, did not get a mark in due to fouls.

In the final two events of the day on the men's side the Cowboys earned 22 team points as Albert Steiner took second in the Steeplechase, Colton Paller third in the Shot Put, Daniel Carrillo fourth in the Shot Put and Seth Bruxvoort sixth in the Steeplechase. Steiner took silver with his time of 8:57.12 and Paller picked up the bronze with his throw of 52-8.25.

Addison Henry and Pete Mead placed fifth and earned four team points for the Cowboys and Cowgirls in their respective events. Henry went 49-0.25 in the Shot Put to move up to No. 6 on the UW All-Time Top 10 Event List with Mead going 6-7 in the High Jump. Anna Gillis placed seventh in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 188-0 earning two points for the Cowgirls.
