LOGAN, Utah (April 11, 2021) – The Wyoming soccer team (2-7-0, 2-7-0 MW) dropped its final contest of the season with a 3-0 loss against the Utah State Aggies (5-4-1) on Sunday afternoon.
The Cowgirls had opportunities early in the first half starting with a shot from sophomore
Jamie Tatum that went high. In the fifth minute of the match, junior
Savannah Warner had her shot sail wide left. The Aggies had three shots over a short time that were saved by junior goalie
Hannah Lee. Utah State recorded six shots the remainder of the half, but it still would go to the lockerroom all tied up at 0-0.
In the second half, Wyoming had another early look from Tatum that was picked up by goalie Diera Walton in the 47
th minute. After two good looks by Utah State, they would strike with 52:24 on the clock with a goal by Whitney Lopez off an assist by Sara Noel-Taylor. The Cowgirls looked to capitalize in the 55
th minute after a foul from the Aggies. Warner couldn't record the equalizer on the penalty shot with a save by Walton. Shortly after, Utah State would increase the lead to 2-0 with a Marli Niederhauser goal with assists by Ashley Cardozo and Kami Warner. Wyoming would get only one more look with 75:11 on the clock from freshman
Nikayla Copenhaver whose shot went high. Late in the contest, the Aggies recorded a third goal from a penalty shot and it would be a 3-0 final at the end of the 90 minute contest.
Tatum finished her day with three shots in her 60 minutes of action with one on goal. Warner had two shots followed by Copenhaver with one. Warner and Webber each recorded 90 minutes each followed by freshman
Rae Gerking playing in 82 minutes. Lee had a career-high nine saves after 90 minutes in the net. Three Aggies finished the night with three shots followed by one with two. Wilson finished the match with two saves in goal.
