Cowgirl Soccer Faces Colorado State on Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo. (April 1, 2021) – The Wyoming soccer team will begin a three-match road swing against the Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon. It is set for 2 p.m. MT and is scheduled to be played at the CSU Soccer Field in Ft. Collins. Due to COVID and social distancing practices, there will be no fans allowed at the venue. The two teams were scheduled to compete on Saturday, March 20, in Laramie but it was canceled due to COVID related issues.
 
Wyoming enters the week with a 1-5-0 overall and in MW action. The Cowgirls closed out its home season last weekend with 1-0 losses against Air Force and Colorado College.
 
Sophomore Indianna Asimus, junior Savannah Warner and freshman Nikayla Copenhaver lead the way with one goal and two points. Sophomore Jamie Tatum has a team-best six shots followed by Copenhaver with five. Senior Elle Webber, sophomore Amber Vokoun and freshman Jazi Barela each have a team-best one assist.
 
Junior goalie Hannah Lee has played in all six matches in net, has 22 saves and a 1.33 goals against average. Sophomore Alex Daws has also played in six matches and has 17 saves. Warner leads the way in minutes played with 553 followed by senior Elle Webber with 510 minutes on the season.
 
Colorado State enters the week with a 2-1-1 overall record. Last time out, the Rams recorded a 1-1 double overtime tie with Colorado College.
 
Gracie Armstrong leads the way with a team-high three goals, six points and 13 shots. Taylor Steinke has two goals, four points and six shots. In net, Amelia Hammerle who has played in all four matches, has six saves and a 1.42 goals against average. The Rams average 10.8 shots and 1.25 goals per contest.
 
They were picked to finish sixth in the MW coaches' poll. The Rams return eight starters and 15 letterwinners to a team that went 12-5-3 overall and 7-3-1 in the conference. CSU is coached by Bill Hempen who is in his eighth season with the program.
 
This is the eighth meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 6-0-1. The last time the two teams met was November 1, 2019. The two times finished in a 0-0 double overtime tie.
