LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 10, 2021) – For the second time this season and in the last three weeks, Wyoming tennis student-athlete Sophie Zehender has been named the Mountain West's Female Tennis Athlete of the Week after she helped lead the Cowgirls to a perfect weekend last week in a pair of 7-0 wins over Weber State.
Zehender went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play over the weekend. She began the week with a 6-1 victory Friday at No. 2 doubles along with partner Ana Fernandez and then followed that up with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles spot.
Saturday, Zehender and Fernandez won again at the second doubles spot, this time 6-4 and then at No. 1 singles, she took down WSU's Yunna Ukita, 6-4 and 6-3.
On the season, Zehender is 7-3 and has won four consecutive matches in singles play while in doubles, she is 8-1 along with Fernandez.
Zehender and the rest of the Cowgirls are off for a couple of weeks now before beginning Mountain West play March 26 and 27 against San Jose State and Colorado State, respectively.
