Cowgirls Head to Mississippi to face West Alabama

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 5, 2021) - After two-plus weeks off, the Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team returns to play with a trip down to McComb, Miss., to face West Alabama in a Sunday morning match at 11. Sunday will be the third match for the Tigers, all of which have been exhibitions so far this season. Wyoming was originally was slated to face Southeastern Louisiana down in McComb, but due to COVID-19 protocols, the Lions were forced to cancel. The Cowgirls are a perfect 2-0 in neutral site matches to begin the season.

Wyoming opened the 2021 season with a four-match swing through the state of Oklahoma, beginning the season with a 2-2 mark. The Cowgirls opened at the Tulsa Hurricane Invitational with a pair of 5-2 victories over Central Arkansas and Louisiana Tech before closing out the invite with a 7-0 loss to host-Tulsa. UW finished its trip with a 7-0 loss at Oklahoma January 20.

Ida Krause and Sophie Zehender both went 2-2 in singles matches down in Oklahoma. Zehender, making her Cowgirl debut, went 1-1 at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions. Zehender also went a perfect 3-0 during doubles play along with partner Ana Fernandez, playing at the No. 3 spot. As a team, the Cowgirls went 7-4 (64 percent) in doubles matches down in the Sooner State.

Following this weekend, the Cowgirls will play four more non-conference matches before beginning Mountain West play, including their home opener March 5 against Weber State.
