LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Cross Country teams will compete at the Battle Born Collegiate Cross Country Challenge hosted by USA Track & Field and the University of Nevada at Craig Ranch Regional Park in Las Vegas, Nev., on Friday February 19, 2021.
This will be the second race of the season for the Cowboys and Cowgirls, and first competition since dualing Colorado State in Cheyenne, Wyo., on January 23rd.
"We've seen a lot of good things from the crew since our last competition four weeks ago." said Cross Country Coach Scott Dahlberg. "They've put in some hard weeks of training and we're looking forward to the opportunity to compete Friday. In some of the harder workouts at practice, we've been happy with a bigger, denser pack running together and pushing each other. We're looking to execute that during the race and closing some of the gaps we saw a month ago. This will be the first larger college race for many of the young athletes, and the first 8k for many of the men, but they have been looking great in the longer volume stuff and are ready for it."
Ten Cowboys get started with the "A" race at 11 am (MT) with four top-25 teams in the field, No. 2 Northern Arizona, No. 5 Stanford, No. 10 Colorado and No. 25 Colorado State. An additional two Cowboy runners will be competing in the "B" race, that will be held at 12:30 pm (MT). All 12 Cowgirls racing this weekend will be in the "B" race, which gets started at 1:15 pm (MT), with six top-25 teams represented… No. 4 New Mexico, No. 5 Colorado, No. 6 Stanford, No. 9 Washington, No. 11 Boise State and No. 16 Northern Arizona.
In the latest USTFCCCA Coaches Poll the Cowboys received seven votes which ranks them as the 36th best team in the country.
