DENVER, Colo. (Feb. 12, 2021) – Members of the Cowgirl Swimming Team opened up its first day at the First Chance Meet on Friday afternoon. The two-day event is taking place at the El Pomar Natatorium in Denver.
"We had a great first day of racing," assistant coach
Jim Bossert said. "The ladies had a lot of excitement and energy leading into today. They showed up and swam fast. Claire (Becker) swam two great races in the 400 IM and 1650 free, getting best times in both. Madeline (Bane) showed some great speed in her two events, both resulting in best times as well."
The event opened up with the 400 IM and sophomore
Claire Becker went a season-best 4:43.05 for a fifth place finish. In the 200 freestyle, sophomore
Olivia Staver touched the wall in a season-best time of 1:55.62 along with freshman
Lana Jeter with her time of 2:02.17.
Freshman
Madeline Bane posted a career-best time of 58.92 in the 100 backstroke to place fifth. She was followed by junior
Molly Green and sophomore
Jocelyn Petersen with best times of 59.48 and 1:02.39, respectively. Sophomore
Sarah Owens went a season-best time of 1:02.65 as well. Freshman
Zoe Robison finished her night with a time of 1:08.59 in the 100 breaststroke.
Seven Cowgirls competed in the 50 freestyle and all recorded season-best times. Bane had her second career-best of the night with a mark of 24.02 to place third. Owens went a season-best with her time of 24.78 while junior
Rachel Pietsch posted a time of 24.86. Staver touched the wall in 24.88 and Green went 25.19. Petersen and Jeter rounded out the event with times of 25.34 and 25.52.
Becker closed out the events for the Cowgirls with a career-best time of 18:13.29 in the 1650 freestyle for another top five finish.
The meet will conclude tomorrow with six events, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle and the 200 IM. The second session is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. MT.
