LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 10, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks Sunday, December 12 as UW welcomes North Dakota State to the Arena-Auditorium for a 1 p.m., tip.
Sunday's contest will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across all 25 stations on the Cowgirl Radio Network with Keith Kelley on the call.
A LOOK AT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (3-4) last played Dec. 3 at Gonzaga, losing a 54-47 battle in Spokane. Ola Ustowska led the Cowgirls with a career-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting and hit a career-best four 3-pointers, while tying a career-high with three assists.
McKinley Bradshaw, who currently leads the Cowgirls and ranks eighth in the MW averaging 14.3 points per game, had her five-game streak scoring in double figures snapped at Gonzaga. However, Bradshaw got it done in other ways against the Bulldogs as she grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and also added career-highs with four steals and two blocks on the defensive end.
Tommi Olson and Quinn Weidemann continue to climb the all-time program rankings. Weidemann is 11th all-time with 151 career 3-pointers made and ranks 13th with 371 career attempts. Weidemann's 40.7-percent career 3-point shooting ranks fourth all-time. Olson is tied for 20th in program history with 115 career steals, while her 208 career assists ranks 25th all-time. Olson's 4.17 assist-to-turnover ratio this season leads the league and ranks fourth in the country.
The Cowgirls continue to lead the nation in fewest fouls per game. Wyoming averages just 10.4 personal fouls per game so far in 2021-22.
Sunday will be UW's final home non-conference contest of the season as the non-conference finale will take place Dec. 22 at Nebraska before beginning Mountain West Play.
SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA STATE
North Dakota State is in the midst of playing 5-of-6 games on the road during a stretch into conference play. The Bison are averaging just over 66 points per game and are allowing opponents to score at a 65-point clip. NDSU is shooting 42 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from 3-point range this season.
The Bison have a dynamic scoring duo in Ryan Cobbins and Heaven Hamling, who are averaging 14.3 and 14.1 points per game, respectively this season. Cobbins leads the team with a 51.3 shooting percentage and has been on fire from beyond-the-arc, going 13-for-24 in 2021-22. Hamling leads the team with 19 made 3-pointers this season. The duo also lead the Bison in assists as they both have tallied 16 total. Cobbins leads NDSU averaging 5.6 rebounds per game.
NDSU is 1-3 on the road so far this season and is led by third-year Head Coach Jory Collins. The Bison are coming off a 59-47 loss to defending National Runner-Up, Arizona Thursday in Tucson.
SERIES AGAINST NORTH DAKOTA STATE
Wyoming is a perfect 4-0 all-time against the Bison, with one of those previous wins coming in Laramie, back in 2008 in the series-opener. The Cowgirls last faced North Dakota State in November of 2019, a 66-57 win in Fargo. Weidemann had 12 points in the win on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor and hit a pair from beyond-the-arc.
SUNDAY'S PROMOTION
The Cowboys (Saturday) and Cowgirls will both host a Teddy Bear Toss this weekend. Fans are asked to bring a stuffed animal to this weekend's contests to throw on the floor at halftime, as it will benefit Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
