LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 6, 2021) – The Wyoming volleyball team righted the ship Saturday night in Laramie, as the Cowgirls made quick work of Nevada, sweeping the Wolf Pack 25-22, 25-17 and 25-19. UW hit .353 for the match and held Nevada to just a .164 team hitting percentage on the evening.
The Cowgirls (14-12, 6-8 MW) got identical offensive numbers from Jackie McBride and KC McMahon in the contest, as both led the team with 10 kills and hit .556 on the night. McBride also chipped in with a pair of blocking assists, while McMahon had two blocks and four digs.
Naya Shimé and Hailey Zuroske added to the balanced Cowgirl attack Saturday night, adding nine and eight kills respectively in the sweep. Zuroske also chipped in with six digs, had a solo block and was one of four Cowgirls to record an ace. UW had twice as many serving aces as did Nevada (4-2).
At the setter position, Abby Olsen led the way with 20 assists on the night while Payton Chamberlain rotated in off the bench and had 14 helpers of her own. In the back row, Erika Jones paced Wyoming with 14 digs while also adding six assists of her own.
UW pretty much controlled the match from start-to-finish Saturday, trailing just once in the contest, in the third set and only allowed Nevada to even be tied in a set, five times throughout the match.
The Cowgirls now look to finish their 2021 home schedule strongly as UW closes its four-match homestand next week against Colorado State and Fresno State. The Cowgirls host the Rams at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 9 in the second Border War of the season between the two.
