Albuquerque, N.M. — The University of Wyoming Cross Country Teams began their post season on Friday morning as they were in action at the Mountain West Championships hosted by New Mexico. Both squads had a solid day as the Cowboys finished fifth while the Cowgirls finished in sixth.
 
"The men got out well but lost contact in the middle of the race. The Four teams ahead of us are all ranked in the top 23 and to put ourselves in that mix we can't have hesitation or dis engagement." Head Cross Country Coach Scott Dahlberg said "They're fit and turning in great workouts, we need to figure out how to translate that into races." 
 
A trio of Cowboys finished inside the top 40 led by the efforts of Albert Steiner who was the top finisher for the Pokes. Steiner finished 32^nd clocking a time of 24:29.9. Just behind him was Seth Bruxvoort who recorded the best finish of his career at the MW Championships placing 34^th with a final time of 24:31.2. Next to cross the line for the Cowboys was Mason Norman who finished 36^th with a time of 24:36.5. Rounding out the top five for the Cowboys were Jerald Taylor and Oisin O'Gailin who finished 42^nd and 43^rd respectively. 
 
As a team the Pokes finished fifth, improving on their sixth-place finish from a year ago, tallying 166 points besting sixth place Nevada by two points. No.11 ranked Air Force captured the team title with a score of 27 points. 
 
"The women competed very well. They put themselves in the race, ran really tough, and made up a lot of ground on great conference field." Dahlberg said "Leah and Kylie are true freshmen but have been running like college veterans." 
 
On the women's side, it was a duo of freshman that would lead the way highlighted by Leah Christians who was he only Cowgirls to place inside the top 30. Christians finished 27^th with a time of 20:41.7. Fellow freshman Kylie Simshauser finished 31^st clocking a time of 20:47.9. Katelyn Mitchem was the third finisher for the Cowgirls crossing the line in 38^th place with a time of 21:02.6. Addi Iken and Abigail Whitman rounded out the top five for the Cowgirls finishing 47^th and 48^th respectively. 
 
For the third year in a row, the Cowgirls finished sixth compiling 162 points finishing well ahead of seventh place Nevada. New Mexico lived up to third number one national ranking as they won the race with a total of 15 points.
