LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 28, 2021) – With a new season on the horizon, the Wyoming Cowboy Wrestling squad welcomes a new class of freshman grapplers. Get to know the Cowboy Newcomers through this Q&A series.

Coming to Wyoming from Bayard, Nebraska, Paul Garcia had a very impressive prep career. He wrestled for Scottsbluff high school where he was a four-time district champion and a four-time state champion.

How has practice and training differed from high school to college?

Training in college has been a lot different form high school. Not only physically but mentally as well. It has helped make myself look at wrestling in a different way, such as learning every little detail of everything including moves.

What are you most looking forward to going into your fist season at UW?

I am looking forward to seeing my team compete and being successful. We are going to make big noise this year and I am excited to be a part of it in any way I can.

What is one thing you learned in your high school career that will help you to compete at the college level?

One thing that I learned was to always push yourself even harder when you are in a tough situation.

What is your favorite memory from your high school career?

My favorite memory was being able to win my fourth state title.

Do you have any pre-match or pre-tournament rituals and/or superstitions?

My pre-match ritual is listening to El Chapo by Kevin Gates.

What's the best piece of advice you have been given during your wrestling career so far?

My best piece of advice is to have fun and do not let anyone or anything get in your way for what is yours.
