BOISE, Idaho (10/21/21) – Redshirt-junior midfielder
Jamie Tatum was the facilitator last Sunday in her team's lopsided victory over Nevada. She matched a school record with three assists in single game in what was an offensive display from the Cowgirls.
Tatum elected to take it in herself Thursday at Boise State. She earned a penalty kick with good ball handling in the box and then cashed in.
Unfortunately for Wyoming, it wasn't enough. The Broncos scored a 3-1 victory at Boas Soccer Complex to improve to 9-2-2 overall and 3-4-2 Mountain West Conference, while the loss drops the Cowgirls to 7-9-1 overall and 3-6-0 in league action.
"Overall, I'm really proud of the effort," head coach
Colleen Corbin said. "The energy was better, the competiveness was better and the level was better. We definitely got better today."
Tatum's goal occurred in the 27th minute. It marked her fourth goal of the season, and 10th of her career, moving her into 14th place, alone, in school history.
"Jamie is definitely one of the strongholds of this program," Corbin said. "She's constantly trying to get better, learn and grow. She understands she has a pretty big leadership role on this team. She really does have a big ability to affect other people from an energy standpoint and from a soccer standpoint."
Tatum's score trimmed the Broncos' lead in half. Boise State recorded goals in the second and fifth minutes to take the early advantage.
Boise State registered the game's final goal in the 59th minute. It was the Broncos' fifth straight win in the series.
Boise State claimed 17 shots to Wyoming's 13. Tatum paced the Cowgirls with five shots, while freshman midfielder
Liv Stutzman added two shots and six other players had one.
Redshirt-junior goalkeeper
Alex Daws made two saves. She left the game late with an injury, so senior goalkeeper
Hannah Lee came in and recorded one save in just over 20 minutes of play.
Wyoming remains on the road, traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah, for a 3 p.m. match against Utah State at Ute Field. The game is being played at the University of Utah because of unplayable field conditions in Logan.
