SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Jan. 8, 2021) – Four individuals from the Cowboy and Cowgirl diving teams opened up its first of two days of competition on Friday at the Utah Diving Invitational. The men competed in the 1-meter while the women started off in the 3-meter.
"This was a good opportunity for us to shake off some of the rust from the holiday break against solid competition," head diving coach
Ted Everett said. "The group did well all things considered. We learned things, have some work to do but we are heading in the right direction."
For the Cowgirls, senior
Abigail Zoromski led the way with a score of 226.75 in the preliminaries to place ninth and advance to the finals. After six dives in the finals, Zoromski remained in ninth with a score of 419.50. Sophomore
Makena Sanger recorded a mark of 155.75 after six dives to finish in 12
th.
On the men's side, the Cowboys were paced by freshman
Juan Gonzalez. He placed fifth in the prelims of the 1-meter with a career-best score of 296.45. He completed the final six dives with a score of 277.80 for a combined score of 574.25. Sophomore
Payton Lee recorded a prelim score of 243.30 and finished with a combined mark of 448.75 to place tenth.
The Cowboys will be competing tomorrow in the 3-meter while the women are in action on the 1-meter. The first event is schedule for 10 a.m. MT at the Ute Natatorium.
