Freshman
Ridge Briggs is a Wyoming native and competed for Riverton High School where he was a four-time regional champion and a three-time state champion. Briggs was also a team captain all four years of his high school career.
How has practice and training differed from high school to college?
Practice and training has differed from high school to college in the technique aspect of things, little mistakes are life or death at this level.
What are you most looking forward to going into your fist season at UW?
I'm looking forward to competing at a higher level and improving in the wrestling room.
What is one thing you learned in your high school career that will help you to compete at the college level?
I learned mental toughness plays a huge role in this sport and I need to continue developing a tough mentality through college.
What's the biggest goal you have set for yourself in your first year at UW?
The biggest goal I have set is to improve every single day and push myself harder and harder.
Did you grow up being a big fan of the cowboy wrestling team?
Growing up, I was always a big cowboys fan. I would go and watch duals and always had a cowboys wrestling poster hanging in my room.
What's it like to get to stay in state and wrestle for the cowboys?
Wrestling for the cowboys and being able to stay in state to wrestle at this level is a blessing. I am close to home, which is a plus, and I really enjoy Wyoming.
What was the experience like to be a 4 time team captain in high school and how do you think that experience will translate to your collegiate career?
Being a 4-time team captain in high school was challenging. I developed leadership skills and learned how to positively impact my fellow teammates. I hope to incorporate those elements into my collegiate career. I believe strong leadership within a team is an important factor to success.
