LARAMIE, Wyo. (January 26, 2021) – Both men's and women's swimming and diving programs will wrap up its dual season in a tri-dual meet with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and Wahine plus the UNLV Rebels. The event scheduled to begin on Thursday at 2 p.m. MT followed by a full schedule on Friday starting at 10 a.m. MT at Buchanan Natatorium in Las Vegas.
The Cowgirls enter this week's contest with a 6-1 dual record. Last time out, they defeated the Denver Pioneers, 137-125. Senior
Hannah Mclean-Leonard had a solid outing on Friday night. She was the lead leg in the 400 medley relay that went 3:56.04 to finish second. Mclean-Leonard scored nine points after a first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.52 and followed that up with her second victory on the night in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.18
For the men, the Cowboys earned its first dual win of the season over the Denver Pioneers. Freshman
Brandon Samaniego had a strong showing with a first place finish in the 1000 free with a career-best time of 9:45.78 while he went 4:59.89 in the 500 free to place third. Fellow freshman
Max DeYoung finished his meet with first place finishes in the 50 free and the 200 backstroke in the meet with times of 21.34 and 1:56.63, respectively.
This is the first dual meet of the season for both the Rainbow Warriors and the Rainbow Wahine. On the men's side, Hawaii went 2-2 in dual action a year ago and has won back-to-back MPSF Championships. For the ladies, they recorded a 1-4 dual record and have won five consecutive MPSF Championships.
For the Rebels, the women enter the week with a 2-0 record. Last time out, they defeated Nevada, 196-103. The Rebels went 4-4 in dual action a season ago and finished fourth at the MW Championships. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 18, 2020 with the Cowgirls coming out on top 158-142.
On the men's side, UNLV comes into the competition with a victory over Cal Baptist. Last time out, they competed in the UNLV Invitational. The Rebels went 4-5 in dual action a year ago and placed fifth at the WAC Championships. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 18, 2020 with UNLV coming out on top 147-128.
