LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 13, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowboy Wrestling squad features a diverse group of newcomers on the roster for the upcoming season. Get to know the Cowboy Newcomers through this Q&A series.

Freshman Warren Carr had a very successful high school career at Thunder Basin High School where he was a three-time state finalist and three-time captain for the Bolts. Carr also won a state title while at Thunder Basin.

How has practice and training differed from high school to college?

There is a big difference in the intensity that goes into college practices and training in comparison to the training in high school. Every guy in the room deserves to be there so it's always an absolute battle in the room.

What are you most looking forward to going into your fist season at UW?

I'm looking forward to being able to wrestle with some of the best guys in the country for an entire season and getting to work with our coaching staff to improve.

What is one thing you learned in your high school career that will help you to compete at the college level?

One thing that I learned in high school that I feel like will help at the college level is the concept of just doing what you're supposed to on and off of the mat. It takes a lot to succeed at this level and I feel like that's the lesson that will help the most for me.

What is your favorite memory from your high school career?

My favorite memory from my high school career was winning a state title in my senior year. It made all of the hard work seem worth it.

Do your model style after any other wrestlers?

I try to model my wrestling style off of several different guys. I try to find what makes the great guys so great and incorporate that into my game but I like to think I have a somewhat unique style as well.

What's the biggest goal you have set for yourself in your first year at UW?

My biggest goal in this first year is to obviously improve as much as possible.

With two other Thunder Basin Alumni on the roster, did that motivate at all or effect your college decision?

Terren and Trevor were great role models and guys that I looked up to in high school so the opportunity to get to wrestle with them again was a big pull towards UW.

Did you grow up being a big fan of the cowboy wrestling team?

Yes, I grew up being a Cowboy wrestling fan. My dad wrestled for the Cowboys during his time here so it was a pretty easy decision to be a Pokes fan growing up.

What's it like to get to stay in state and wrestle for the cowboys?

Getting to stay in state and represent the brown and gold has been a dream come true. Not only do I get to represent a UW but I also get to represent my home state as well.
