Week two in the NFL saw 43 college programs represented at the starting safety position. While Ohio State and Texas led the way with four former players starting at either safety position. The trio of Marcus Epps, Tashaun Gipson and Andrew Wingard saw Wyoming come in right behind those two programs in a tie for third, with Alabama and Virginia, among college programs and the highest representation amongst Group of Five schools.
Coming off a week one that saw him get his first NFL interception, Wingard made the third start of his career on Sunday for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wingard recorded seven solo and nine total tackles as the Jaguars battled it out against the Tennessee Titans in an AFC South showdown. While the Jaguars tied the game late with a fourth quarter touchdown, the Titans won the game on a Field-Goal with 1:36 left to play. Wingard and the Jags move to 1-1 on the season. A milestone day for Epps, the second year player made his first start of his NFL career as the Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Los Angeles Rams. Epps made five total tackles for the Eagles, contributing on defense and special teams in the 19-37 loss. The Chicago Bears and Gipson improved to 2-0 by taking down the New York Giants at home 17-13. Gipson recorded two tackles as the Bears defense held the Giants to just three points through the first three quarters.
Josh Allen has led the Buffalo Bills to a 2-0 record for the second consecutive year, the first time the Bills have accomplished that feat since the '91-'93 seasons. For the second week in a row Allen threw for a career high in yardage, amassing 417 threw the air and accounting for four scores. He became the first Bills player to throw 400 plus yards, score four touchdowns and not have an interception in a game. The Bills got the 31-28 win over a division foe, the Miami Dolphins, and two weeks in to the 2020 season Allen leads the NFL with 729 passing yards.
Mike Purcell and the Denver Broncos traveled to Pittsburgh for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Steelers. Purcell got the start on the defensive line for the Broncos and made his presence felt early with a first-half sack on Ben Roethlisberger. It was Purcell's first sack as a member of the Broncos and his second in the NFL. The Broncos were in the game until the end but fell 21-26 and to 0-2 on the year.
Brian Hill had five total touches for the Atlanta Falcons offense on Sunday. Hill rushed three times for fourteen yards and caught two passes for 11 yards. The Falcons fell 39-40 to the Dallas Cowboys.
Chase Roullier continues to be a staple on the Offensive Line for the Washington Football Team. Roullier made the start for the second straight week and aided the team's rushing attack run for 117 yards and a touchdown.
A 2020 sixth-round pick Cassh Maluia made his NFL debut on Sunday for the New England Patriots. Recorded two snaps on special teams for the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. Jacob Hollister and Seattle Seahawks faced off against maluia and the Patriots. While Hollister did not record any stats the Seahawks prevailed and improved to 2-0 in 2020.
Carl Granderson and the New Orleans Saints took over primetime on Monday Night Football for the debut of the Las Vegas Raiders Allegiant Stadium. Granderson was on the field for 40 percent of the Saints defensive snaps and recorded one tackle in the Saints 24-34 loss. Rico Gafford was inactive for the second week in a row on the other side of the field for the Raiders.
Logan Wilson did not record any stats on Thursday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns but split time on defense and Special Teams for the Bengals. The Bengals fell 30-35 to the Browns.
Mark Nzeocha saw the majority of his playing time on special teams for the 49ers and did not record any stats.
Eddie Yarbrough was inactive for the Minnesota Vikings for their matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
