Laramie, Wyo. (August 30, 2020) – Wyoming head coach Jeff Linder knew what he was getting when he added John Grigsby to the Cowboy roster. Grigsby could say the same thing about his new coach, as his brother Roy has spent two seasons playing for Linder at Northern Colorado.

"Coach Linder and I have a great relationship, thanks to my brother being part of the Northern Colorado program," Grigsby said. My family and I loved being a part of his program and went to so many games, so we know how he plays. I think I fit very well into his system."

Roy Grigsby well be entering his redshirt sophomore season this winter. He joined the Bears as a walk-on during the 2018-19 season. John Grigsby said having his brother play under coach Linder was an advantage heading into the season.

"It is nice to have a brother that has played for the same coach," Grigsby said. "If I had a rough day and have questions, he always answer the phone and talks me through it. He is so familiar with the system, it makes it easy. The great thing is before I came up to Wyoming, we did the workouts he did at Northern Colorado, so I was prepared. He is my best friend and he has helped me out a ton."

Grigsby, a native of Louisville, Colo. played his senior season at Park Center High School in Brooklyn Park, Minn. transferring from Monarch High School. He averaged 12.5 points per game and five rebounds per night at Park Center. He also shot 52 percent from the three-point line for the season. Grigsby helped lead his team to the section finals before season the season canceled.

"It was a crazy journey going from the familiarity of having all of my friends and going to a totally different school," Grigsby said. "It made me grow so much as a person and as a player. It helped me get here. In the end I'm very grateful for what happened."

Park Center was one of the top teams in the state of Minnesota and had numerous players earn Division I scholarships.

"I played with and against some very athletic players my senior season," Grigsby said. "We had two players that will play at the Division I level and seeing that everyday made me a better player and has prepared me for this level. It was a huge helped for my game."

Grigsby and the Cowboys have been in workouts since mid-July. Workouts have included lifting along with individual and team workouts.

"Fans are going to see a lot of three-point shooting," Grigsby said. "I like to shoot from all over the floor. It's really my favorite part of the game."
