LARAMIE, Wyo. (July 16, 2020) – Three members of the University of Wyoming track & field teams earned individual all-academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while both the men's and women's teams were recognized by the institution.
Paul Roberts,
Kirk Unland and
Shayla Howell were named all-academic by the USTFCCCA. In order to be named all-academic, individual athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish the indoor season ranked in the top-96 of an individual event or the top-48 of a relay event. Usually, athletes could also be athletically eligible with a trip to the outdoor preliminary championship rounds, but the outdoor season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the second season in a row earning the distinction for Roberts and Howell, and it is the first such honor for Unland.
In order for a team to be recognized, the team must have at least a 3.0 combined cumulative GPA. The Cowboys earned a 3.644 GPA as a team, highest in the Mountain West, and fourth highest in the country. The Cowgirls finished with a 3.656 GPA, which is second in the conference and 22
nd in the country.
