Catching up with Cowgirl Soccer. Former Wyoming student-athlete Alisha Bass was a four-year letterwinner and center midfielder for the Cowgirls from 2014-17. She still ranks among the top ten in school history in six categories including goals, assists, shots, game winning goals, games played and started. A four-time Academic All-Mountain West selection, she graduated with a double degree in finance and management with a consulting concentration. She currently works for Soutar Accountants in Sydney, New South Wales, Austrailia.  She is a tax accountant and works with clients to complete their individual tax return, business activity statements and the accounting on their retirement funds. Media Relations recently caught up with her to see what's been going on.

What steps did you take to get into your current career field?
After graduation, I worked in Sheridan, Wyoming for a year as an Executive Assistant at a company called EMIT Technologies. There I gained valuable lessons and insights into the business world as I was able to sit in on many meetings between the leadership team and external consultants. During that time, I also completed a Dave Ramsey Financial Coach Master Course. I have a passion for helping people, particularly young people, to learn more about their personal finances, budgeting and financial literacy in general which I hope that I can pursue as a side business.

How did your involvement in athletics aid in the path that you chose following graduation?
Being a student-athlete has helped me to know that I can do anything and be anyone that I want to be. The intense training environment, the high standard we were held to, the time management that we learned are all such valuable skills.

What piece of advice would you give current student-athletes?
Gain experiences outside of the student-athlete environment. Wyoming is beautiful and has so much to offer. It took me until after graduation to really go out and do this when I lived in Sheridan, and I'm thankful I got that chance. During this time, I was able to go to observe calf branding, skiing, swing dancing, hiking and see Yellowstone. Do it while you have the chance!

What is your fondest memory of playing at the University of Wyoming?
Playing the game I loved alongside amazing teammates and best friends, especially when we got to do it in front of our home crowd. I was so proud to be representing the state of Wyoming, and to do it in front of friends and fans would always fire me up for a big game.

How did your previous coaches influence you?
They encouraged a high standard, and this helped me to develop discipline not only within the soccer environment, but for life in general. They also helped us to become well-rounded. They encouraged us to do community service, and would do extra sessions with the captains where we read leadership books, which taught me lessons I will carry for the rest of my life.
