ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (February 27, 2020) – The Wyoming track & field teams got started at the Mountain West Indoor Championships on Thursday with the men's heptathlon and the men's and women's distance medley relays. Both relay squads earned team points, and both posted top-five marks on the all-time Wyoming record lists.

"We saw some places in both relays with good fight and competitiveness," said distance coach Scott Dahlberg.

The Cowboy distance medley relay team of Harry Ewing, Tyler Dahl, Tom Moulai and Jerald Taylor ran an altitude-converted time of 9:56.16, which is third all-time at Wyoming. It's the fastest time recorded by a Wyoming relay team since the 2011 season. They finished fifth overall, picking up four team points.

Then, the Cowgirl team of Kaylee Kearse, Sophia Cunningham, Julia Kay O'Neill and Katelyn Mitchem posted an altitude-converted time of 11:52.84 to place eighth and earn one team point. That time is No. 5 all-time at Wyoming, and each of the top five times have come in the last five years.

Earlier in the day, Bryson Engebretson competed in the first four events of the heptathlon. At the end of the first day of the competition, he is in fourth place with 2,471 points.

He placed fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.52 to earn 706 points, and then placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, three inches to earn 624 points.

In the next two events, he posted personal best marks. The competitors moved to the shot put, and Engebretson placed third with a throw of 36-7.75 to earn 556 points. Then, he cleared 5-8.75 in the high jump to finish fourth and pick up 585 more points.

The Wyoming teams will continue action at the Mountain West Championships tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. (MT) with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon.
