LARAMIE, Wyo. (October 26, 2020) – The University of Wyoming women's soccer team played one of its infamous Brown and Gold game scrimmages on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2020 ending in a 0-0 tie.
At the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex, the Cowgirls played a total of two 40-minute periods that remained scoreless 14 total shots. The Brown team finished with six shots while the Gold team finished with eight. Sophomore
Jamie Tatum led the Gold team with five shots with two on goal that were all stopped short by sophomore
Alex Daws. Junior
Indianna Asimus led the Brown team with two which were scooped up by junior
Hannah Lee.
Most of the players have been in Laramie since early July attending conditioning, lifting, and soccer training sessions daily. The Cowgirls have continued to train diligently in their newfound offseason to prepare for the spring season that hopefully lies ahead.
"Training has been a great opportunity for everyone on roster," head coach
Pete Cuadrado said. "For our seniors, they have had added time to continue to improve before their senior season, whereas in the past they would be ending their senior seasons in November. For our freshmen, this time has been key to helping them integrate into the team dynamics while not having to worry about travel and juggling the schedule of a normal fall season. This time has also allowed players to make improvements in their fitness and skill levels."
The women's team has not ceased attending regular practices and lifts in order to maintain the level of play we want to achieve. Many of the student-athletes take solace in soccer remaining a constant in the trying times of a global pandemic.
Cuadrado feels confident that the team is well-prepared for the future, "We've had a great attitude, and have had some very good intensity in our trainings that the players want to translate over to a match. I fully expect that we will not take anything for granted this spring and will be prepared no matter the circumstance."
Continuing their persistent training, with eyes locked on the future Mountain West conference season, the Cowgirls will play in a final Brown and Gold scrimmage this fall tomorrow, at the Indoor Practice Facility. At this time, the event will remain closed to the public.
