LARAMIE, Wyo. (Aug. 11, 2019) – Wyoming women's soccer played its preseason Gold and White game to a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon at the IPF (Indoor Practice Facility). It was originally scheduled to be played at the Louis S. Madrid but was moved due to the inclement weather.
The intersquad match consisted of one 25-minute period and two 20-minute periods. It remained scoreless between the two teams after the 65 minutes of action. Redshirt freshman
Jamie Tatum had a scoring chance at 13:46 to begin but was saved by sophomore
Hannah Lee. For the white squad, they had a couple of chances in the final minute of the first period but sophomore
Riley Furbush had two stops.
"From the first day we've started training this was a definite step forward," head coach
Pete Cuadrado said. "It's a work in progress and we still have things to work on. It was a good day, had a lot of bright spots and can watch tape to clean up some other things. We've been emphasizing defense so to end up with a 0-0 score shows that. It was good to get the freshmen in this environment as well."
In the second period, both teams combined for three shots on goal. Senior
Talia Sclafani had a chance at the 28:52 mark that was saved by Lee. For the gold squad, sophomore
Amber Vokoun had two looks at the goal but again was shut-down by Furbush. The final 20 minutes saw the white squad outshoot the gold 3-2 with no scoring to show by either team.
The gold team finished with six shots while the white team had five. Vokoun recorded three shots while freshman
Haylee Rice recorded two. Furbush had six saves and Lee had two saves in the net.
The Cowgirls will play in their lone exhibition match of the 2019 season this Saturday against FC Boulder at the Louis S. Madrid Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT.
