LARAMIE, Wyo. (July 22, 2019) – As the summer tourism months are under way, our diverse Cowgirl team would like to give fans a guide to their hometowns. This week,
Alba Sanchez Ramos shares her guide to Madrid as she participates in the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.
When traveling to Madrid, Alba says there isn't a bad place in the city to stay, since everything is laid out really well. However, the center of Madrid would be the best. When you're looking for somewhere to eat, she recommends Tagliatella or Goiko Grill, both of which have a few locations around the city.
Gran Via, a famous street in the city, is home to many incredible views, shopping and entertainment, and you may recognize it from a few movies or mentions in famous novels. La Castellana is another great destination for shopping, according to Sanchez Ramos, and is only a few miles from Gran Via. Madrid is also home to plenty of fun nightlife spots near these areas. If you're more of an outside person, the Guadarrama mountains just outside of Madrid are for you. As far as museums, Sanchez Ramos would direct you to El Prado or Reina Sofia.
If you don't want to stand out as a tourist, Alba says a kiss on the cheeks is how locals say hello to each other, similar to a hug here in the U.S. In Madrid, hugs are for someone you are closer to. Additionally, Alba shared a few phrases to help tourists:
- Hola, gracias, adios – Hellos, thank you, goodbye
- La cuenta, por favor – the check, please
Lastly, Alba says nobody would ever regret visiting her hometown of Madrid.
