I know that it may sound like a lot, but believe it or not, we are able to do more than just play football and go to school while we are here at the University of Wyoming. Although the amount of time we spend doing football activities varies with the seasons, there is always time to relax and unwind.
This is important for us as players because it's easy to get caught up in everything going on, and at the end of the day we like to just relax and unwind. How do we do that? Well it just depends on who you ask.
Everybody is different, and a lot of guys enjoy different things. Video games are pretty popular among the team, as are taking naps. Me personally, I love to go bowling.
Sidney Malauulu,
Cassh Maluia and I will willingly take on anybody in Laramie in a game of bowling. But that's beside the point.
The best part about life outside of football and school though is that the majority of us live with guys who are also on the team. So, when you get some free time, chances are the guys around you do too.
I have two roommates that play football,
Garrett Crall, a junior defensive end, and
Justis Borton, a junior defensive tackle. Two guys who know as well as anybody what it's like to live life in the trenches.
We do a lot of things together - bonfires, video games, Game of Thrones, you name it. And living with guys that have the same mindset as you do, as far as taking school and football seriously, goes a long way in helping with the day-to-day grind.
Something fun that we decided to do recently was adopt a dog named Daisy Mae from a shelter in Cheyenne. We all love dogs and thought it would be a lot of fun to have her just in time for the summer.
When I asked Garrett why he thinks getting a dog was such a good idea he said, "I'm happy that myself, and my four other dog dad roommates finally decided to get our dog, Daisy Mae, because it's been nothing short of fun times and good vibes."
Justis was a little cautious about the dog at first because of the time commitment that comes with owning a pet, but he eventually caved to the rest of us. "It's great getting to live with not only my teammates and best friends, but also my four other dog dads," said Borton. "Having Daisy Mae has been nothing short of a great experience."
So, we're all pretty excited about it, but like I said there are so many other ways that we can spend our free time. And with summer break just around the corner, it's safe to say we are all pretty excited.
Summer is by no means a break for us, but there is a lot more free time than in the school year. We will work out during the weekdays, but other than that there are not too many other obligations for us.
We pretty much all enroll in a summer course or two but compared to the load that we have in fall and spring it is not nearly as time consuming. Some guys get jobs and some guys don't. It all just depends on what you want to do.
So, although it may seem like a lot going on in the trenches, there's always room to relax. I mean after all, work hard, play hard -- am I right?
