LARAMIE, Wyo. (May 14, 2019) – The University of Wyoming women's soccer team concluded its spring season on Saturday, May 4 with the annual Alumni match in Laramie. The Cowgirls defeated the Alumni 5-2.
Prior to that, UW played to a 0-0 tie against the Colorado Buffaloes. Wyoming outshot the Buffs 8-5 and freshmen
Riley Furbush and
Hannah Lee had a clean sheet in goal.
The Cowgirls reached the halfway point of the spring with a 2-0 record with a 1-0 win over Metro State and a 3-1 victory against Colorado School of Mines.
Wyoming got on the board quickly against the Orediggers with a goal from senior
Brittney Stark in the 23
rd minute. The assist came from fellow senior
Annika Clayton. The lead would be extended right before the half by junior
Talia Sclafani as her shot reached the back of the net to make it 2-0. Out of the break, Stark would record her second goal of the match with the assist coming from freshman
Kennedy Schomer. A goal by CSM in the 82
nd minute made the final score 3-1 in favor of UW.
Against Metro State on April 14, incoming freshman Sydnie Maiava had the lone goal in the match to help give the Cowgirls a 1-0 win. Furbush and Lee notched the shutout for UW in goal.
Wyoming begain its 2019 spring campaign with a 3-1 victory over conference foe Utah State. The match was played at Rock Springs Junior High on Saturday, March 30.
After trailing at halftime 1-0, the Cowgirls came out firing in the second half. The first goal came from freshman
Amber Vokoun, with the assist from senior
Jessie Gentle to even up the score. Wyoming then took the lead off of a counter attack from freshman
Indianna Asimus, while fellow freshman
Caitlin Pickett sealed the win with her goal coming with one-minute remaining on the clock.
Wyoming recorded a 3-0-1 record in its four match spring slate. The Cowgirls outscored their opponents 7-0 over the same span.
The Cowgirls will return four starters and 17 letterwinners to a team that went 12-4-4 overall and 7-2-2 in league play. Wyoming would finish with a share of the 2018 regular season title and head coach
Pete Cuadrado became the all-time winningest coach in school history.
