FORT COLLINS, Colo. (April 27, 2019) – The Wyoming track & field teams put their finishing touches on the regular season with 10 personal best marks and seven event wins at the Jack Christiansen Invitational hosted by Colorado State down in Fort Collins, Colo.
"I thought the team did a great job of building on the momentum we created in California last week," said head Wyoming track & field coach
Bryan Berryhill. "We were very focused today and ended the regular season of our schedule with lots of positive results. Now, all our focus will shift towards the championship part of the season, starting with the Mountain West Championships in two weeks."
The Cowgirls had an excellent day, led by the 4x100m relay team of
Jerayah Davis,
Ja'la Henderson,
Shayla Howell and
Jordan Edmonds recorded a season-best time of 44.66, which his just 0.03 seconds off the school record set in 2004, to win the event. The 4x400m relay team of
Jasmyne Cooper,
Kaylee Kearse,
Jacey Reinert,
Julia Kay O'Neill also picked up a win, finishing first in 3:54.73.
Jasmyne Cooper picked up the Cowgirls other event win on the track, as she paced the field in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.47.
Ja'la Henderson improved on her own No. 2 all-time long jump record with a mark of 20 feet, 5.25 inches to finish first, while teammate
Shayla Howell took third with a leap of 19-2.75.
Aumni Ashby found the podium in the triple jump with a second place finish after jumping 38-7.5.
The Cowgirl throwers were solid, as
Cosette Stellern took sixth in the discus with a throw of 150-8.
Mary Carbee had a personal-best toss of 162-1 in the hammer throw to finish fifth, and
Maddy Dedic PR'd in the shot put with a throw of 40-9 to finish sixth.
For the Cowboys,
William Nolan swept the horizontal jumps, as his long jump of 24-4.25 was good for first and is the 10
th best jump in school history. Additionally, he placed first in the triple jump with a PR leap of 49-3.
Alec Richardson placed second in the long jump with a personal best mark of 23-9.5.
Eric McArthur won the hammer throw with a toss of 194-11, while
Colton Paller placed third in the discus and shot put with marks of 171-2 and 48-9, respectively.
Hap Frketich took second in the javelin throw with a toss of 186-9.
On the track,
Bryce Ailshie finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.84.
Caige McComb PR'd in the 110m hurdles, as he finished seventh with a time of 15.21.
Roman Smith competed in the 100m and 200m dashes, and placed 12
th and ninth with times of 11.13 and 22.24, respectively.
The Wyoming track & field teams will return to action at the Mountain West Championships, held Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11, in Fresno, Calif.
