Harry Ewing and
Kacey Doner have been tabbed the Mountain West Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week. Both athletes competed at the Colorado State-hosted Fum McGraw Open last weekend.
These are the first weekly conference awards for both Ewing and Doner.
Ewing, a sophomore from Hamilton, New Zealand, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase last weekend. His altitude-adjusted time of 9:14.20 was good enough to capture the event title down in Fort Collins. He finished 10.44 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, and his time leads all Mountain West runners this season by 16.87 seconds. His time is ranked 19
th in the nation and 11
th in the west.
Doner, a junior from Fort Collins, Colo., also won the 3,000m steeplechase last weekend in her hometown. She finished the race with an altitude-adjusted time of 10:42.83, which is a personal-best time and the third-best in school history. She currently has the best time in the Mountain West by 12.5 seconds, and it's the sixth-best time in the NCAA. Additionally, the time is fourth in the west.
The Pokes are back in action this weekend at both the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Tom Benich Invite in Greeley, Colo.
