HOUSTON, Texas (Mar. 1, 2019) – The Cowboy swimming and diving program recorded some solid performances on day four of the WAC Championship on Friday. Wyoming dropped to fourth place with 396 points, while Grand Canyon continues to lead with 472 headed in to the final day. Air Force moved up second with 418 points while Cal Baptist holds a slight lead in third with 398.5.
The Cowboys started the day with the 400-yard IM prelims. Junior
Seth Borgert advanced to the finals with a time of 3:53.93 in the prelims to earn third. In the 100-yard butterfly prelims, sophomore
Brayden Love posted a third place time of 47.45 to advance to the finals as well. Junior
PJ Musser also placed 11
th in the event with a time of 48.67. Freshman
Austin Crump and junior
Jacob Harlan each advanced to the finals of the 200 freestyle placing fifth and eighth with times of 1:39.53 and 1:39.77.
In the 100-yard backstroke prelims, three Cowboys placed in the top eight to move into the finals. Senior
David Murphy placed fourth with a time of 54.68. Fellow senior
Liam Holt placed sixth with a time of 54.73, while sophomore
Mitchell Hovis finished in 54.98 to earn eighth place. Capping off preliminary racing was the 100-yard backstroke where sophomore
Tyler Klatt moved onto the finals with a sixth-place finish in 48.51.
In the finals, Borgert earned points for Wyoming with a seventh-place finish in the 400-yard IM in a time of 3:55.94. Love added another top eight finish for the Cowboys touching the wall in 48.02 for a sixth place finish. Crump and Harlan went fifth and sixth with times of 1:38.13 and 1:38.16, respectively in the 200-yard freestyle.
Three Cowboys finished fifth, sixth and seven-place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Holt came first with a time of 54.39, Murphy swam a time 54.40 followed by Hovis touching the wall in 54.55.
The Cowboys will close out the championships tomorrow morning with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT.
