Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 1, 2019) – The Cowgirl and Cowboy diving squads had a solid day on the 3-meter event to begin the first of two days of competition at the Air Force Diving Invite.
"We had a really solid day today," head diving coach
Kyle Bogner said. "This meet is always paramount in preparing for the championship season. There were a lot of areas where we were able to build confidence and we were also able to identify places that need final tweaks."
For the Cowgirls, senior
CeeJay Harris would lead the way as she would record a score of 259.55 in the preliminaries to earn her spot in the finals. Freshman
McKenna Houlihan would join Harris in the finals after tallying a score of 257.05 in the opening rounds. Senior
Peyton GrandPre would fall two spots shy of making the finals after totaling a score 249.40, while junior
Abigail Zoromski finished with a score of 231.00.
In the finals, Harris would improve upon her score from earlier in the day recording a score of 271.05 in the finals for a total of 530.60 and a fifth place finish. Houlihan would record a score of 249.75 in the finals which would earn her the 11
th spot. All four Cowgirls that competed in the 3-meter event would finish in the top 20 divers with three of them finishing in the top 15.
On the men's side, senior
Ryan Russi was the top scorer for the Cowboys. He finished with a score of 320.90 in the first six dives. Freshman
Brendan Byrnes followed with a 284.95 score in the preliminaries while sophomore
Elijah Chan had a mark of 293.60.
Russi had a score of 327.15 in the finals for a total of 648.05 to place fourth in the event. Byrnes tallied a mark of 301.65 for an overall score of 586.60 to place eighth. Chan finished 11th with a total score of 557.20 and a mark of 263.60 in the finals.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow on the platform. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MT in Colorado Springs.
